🛠️ Typical workflow

Launch picamd from your Applications folder. When you open the window, you see a blank screen that waits for your input. Type your notes using standard symbols for headings, lists, or bold text.

To use AI, highlight a paragraph and open the AI command menu. Choose your desired action from the list. The app sends the highlighted text to the provider and displays the results in a side window. You choose to keep the changes or revert to your original work.

Organize your files in folders on your machine. Picamd reads these files and maintains the links between them. You do not need to import your documents into a proprietary database.

🧪 Troubleshooting common issues

If you encounter a problem, check these suggestions before seeking more help.

The app will not open Ensure that you moved the app file from your Downloads folder to your Applications folder. macOS security sometimes blocks files that stay inside the Downloads folder.

AI features do not work Verify that your internet connection is active. Check that your API key is correct in the Settings menu. Each provider requires a unique key to function.

The screen looks empty Refresh your view by using the shortcut Command+R. This forces the app to reload the file index.

The app feels slow Check if you have many files open at once. Close folders that you do not need for your current task.

You own your data. Picamd treats your documents as private files. It sends data to an AI provider only when you authorize an action. The app does not collect usage statistics or personal information. Your configuration files remain local, which ensures that your settings and preference keys never leave your machine.
