Disclaimer
I developed this language BEFORE AI was around, it may look vibe coded, because I use AI now to write the docs and readme's and boilerplate script functions, but its actually not (entirely)
Shizoscript 3 (tm)
A creative coding language for stage, light, sound, and beyond.
ShizoScript 3 is a custom scripting language runtime distributed as prebuilt binary bundles per operating system and architecture. It is designed for rapid prototyping and acts as a neat "duct tape" between different ecosystems.
This repository contains binaries and runtime data only. Source code is not (yet) public. Users should download the appropriate bundle for their platform and install the runtime locally.
🚀 Installation
Windows
- Download
windows_x64.zip. - Extract the archive to a directory of your choice.
- Right-click Installer.exe and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the installer prompts — installation completes automatically.
Note: I know you should never trust random executables from the net and especially not run them with administrator rights, but I can assure you this is only needed to associate the file endings '.shio' etc with the shz.exe interpreter, aswell as adding some context menu entries.
You may also install without administrator rights, but then you have to manually invoke the interpreter everytime:
%LOCALAPPDATA%/Shizoscript/shz.exe <scriptfile>
To uninstall, just run the installer again.
Linux (x64)
You can install shizoscript for your local user ( ~/.local/bin ) without sudo privileges:
# 1. Download the bundle wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/shizotech/shizoscript3/main/bundles/linux_x64.tar.gz -O shizoscript3.tar.gz # 2. Create a directory for the app mkdir -p shizoscript3 # 3. Extract into that directory tar -xzf shizoscript3.tar.gz -C shizoscript3 # 4. Change into the directory cd shizoscript3 # 5. Make installer executable chmod +x installer.sh # 6. Run the installer ./installer.sh
Linux (ARM64 — Raspberry Pi 4+, other ARM64 boards)
You can install shizoscript for your local user ( ~/.local/bin ) without sudo privileges:
# 1. Download the bundle wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/shizotech/shizoscript3/main/bundles/linux_arm64.tar.gz -O shizoscript3.tar.gz # 2.
Post-Install (Linux)
If ~/.local/bin is not in your PATH, add it:
echo 'export PATH="$PATH:$HOME/.local/bin"' >> ~/.bashrc source ~/.bashrc
Verify the installation:
shz --help

You can also access built-in documentation from the command line at any time:
shz docs <keyword>
For example:
shz docs print
✏️ Usage
After installation the shz command is available system-wide.
Script files use the .shio extension.
On windows, it is recommended to use the builtin code editor
You can open it by searching "ShizoScript Editor" in the start menu or
Running shz editor in the command line or
Right click on a .shio file -> more options -> Edit Script which should also open the editor.
Alternatively, Notepad++ with C++ syntax highlighting is recommended.
On linux, any code editor with C++ syntax highlighting works, the windows code editor will be ported soon.
Running a Script
shz <source_file>
Windows: You can also double-click any
.shioor.shxfile to run it directly.
Hello World
// example.shio std.print("Hello world!");
shz example.shio
Idea
Shizoscript is an easy-to-use creative coding language made by Erik Mackrodt.
It is designed primarily for practitioners involved in stage productions and lighting, visual arts, music, AI, and other creative or performance-driven disciplines. In these environments, projects often consist of large, interconnected setups that need to be built quickly, changed frequently, and understood at a glance—sometimes under significant time pressure.
ShizoScript aims to make it easy to create, manage, and adapt these setups without forcing a rigid structure or programming style. You should be able to sketch ideas rapidly, experiment freely, and still scale those experiments into reliable systems as a project grows.
The language is also intended to work close to the hardware when needed. ShizoScript can run on microcontroller-based devices for projects that require custom controllers or dedicated hardware, allowing the same language to be used across prototyping, control logic, and deployment.
Support for common interfaces and protocols used in creative technology—such as Art-Net, OSC, and similar systems—is treated as a first-class concern. These tools are not add-ons, but core building blocks for real-world creative workflows.
At the same time, ShizoScript is not limited to creative coding alone. It remains flexible enough to be used as a general-purpose programming language, with familiar constructs like functions, classes, namespaces, and concurrency available when needed.
The goal is not to replace any existing language, but to reduce friction in environments where adaptability, iteration, and clarity matter more than strict adherence to a single programming paradigm.
It can easily interface other languages like python and other programs such as touchdesigner or resolume
It's the duct-tape and orchestrator of your wildest stage design setups and other projects.
Wether you like to write pedantic type-checked code, or just want to put a "noexcept" in front of a function to get legacy code running somehow, in shizoscript you can do it!
🔄 Updating
To update to the latest version, run:
shzupdate
Administrative privileges may be required depending on your system configuration. On Windows you can also launch Shizoscript Updater from the Start Menu.
For Agents
There is a builtin shizoscript docs mcp server you can start with:
shz mcpdocs
Also there is a miniagent system for a basic agent implementation loop:
shz miniagent
