My Thoughts on running Linux vs Windows Link to heading

The age-old Linux vs Windows vs Mac. This year I finally went into my long-awaited deep-dive moving fully to Linux. Overall, I am quite impressed and happy with Fedora KDE Plasma. Below, I detail down the understanding of what I know about the objective truth between Linux vs Windows.

This includes all the major distributions of Linux, e.g. Ubuntu, Fedora, … etc.

Advantages of Linux Link to heading

Offers a wide range of choices to users.
- Allowing users to choose between many distributions of Linux as a “flavor” for different use cases.
- Allowing users to change out the desktop environment for a different desktop environment.
With more and more Users adopting Linux, you see more and more Content Creators, running benchmarks, that is showing the truth of the Linux performance, where it is just as good or better than Windows.
Includes more hardware support out of the box than what Windows supports as the hardware drivers are mostly built into the Linux kernel compared to the Windows model that commonly requires hardware vendors to ship with drivers.

Disadvantages of Linux Link to heading

Because there is so many options, some users might find it overwhelming.
Given the history of Linux software development, in the past it was commonly known that the support and stability was lacking but with the more and more user adoption as of late, the stability of the Linux ecosystem as a whole is becoming much better, the support is becoming much more and with the advent of Steam, Linux gaming is much more of an option for Gamers.

Microsoft Windows Link to heading

This includes only Windows 11, as the support for previous versions of Windows has been dropped by Microsoft.

Advantages of Windows Link to heading

Mostly keeps backwards compatibility of Older compiled applications.
A standard user interface that is most known throughout the world and most people are familiar with the user interface.

Disadvantages of Windows Link to heading

With the recent increased focus on AI, Microsoft’s vision has changed, and they are forcing AI into every tool of their operating system and product range.
Not free, paid product.
It is closed sourced, and proprietary.

Apple Mac Link to heading

This is only including Apple Mac, broadly most versions, commonly most recent versions.

Advantages of Apple Mac Link to heading

Apple Mac’s has a specific user interface different to Windows, but there is a big community of users that use Apple Mac specifically more specifically design users, people that design or UX developers.

Disadvantages of Apple Mac Link to heading

Hardware and software optimizations and has a sort of synergy between hardware and software.
