FT: AI compute has become strategic infrastructure, and adversaries are now treating data centres like power plants and fuel depots.

Missile defence and blast-proof construction could become standard line items in AI infrastructure.

Iranian strikes broke the core assumption of cloud resilience, because hitting several AWS availability zones at once left customer data in the Bahrain region permanently unrecoverable.

Data localisation offered no protection, since keeping data inside Bahrain meant it sat in exactly the buildings Iran destroyed.

Russia’s state control of Yandex did not stop Ukrainian drones from halting the site that houses 2 of the company’s 3 AI training supercomputers.

The outages spread beyond Yandex to ride-hailing, payments and other businesses running on Yandex Cloud, showing how a few concentrated sites can disrupt a national digital economy.
