As of this week, Modem lives at modem.ai. Everything keeps working as before, and old modem.dev links redirect.

With the new domain comes a new website, a slightly tweaked visual identity, and a change to how we position Modem to customers. Here's why.

We started with engineers

When we started Modem in mid-2025, we built it for developers. The original pitch: "turn support, chat, and analytics into developer-ready context". The bet was that with coding agents, engineers should get customer context directly, so they could fix problems and make product decisions without waiting on other teams.

But we didn't anticipate how quickly coding agents would reach beyond developers. Their capabilities landed in ChatGPT and Claude, and now people across the organization use them to build things and act on ideas. And nobody's ability to solve problems should be bottlenecked on access to customer context.

Every team needs Modem

This isn't just theory or thought leadership. We've seen this first-hand in how people use Modem.

As we started adding customers, we began to notice who actually used our product. Engineers, yes, but also founders, PMs, customer success leads, CTOs, product leads, and more.

Where we startedWho actually uses Modem

It turns out the problem we were solving for engineers – sourcing context from scattered customer conversations – applied to them too. Because you can't make good decisions in the dark about what your customers need.

But our .dev domain didn't signal that. It told visitors they were looking at a developer tool. And we didn't want that to prevent people from learning that Modem was super useful for them too.

Find, fix, and follow up

The new site opens with our new ambition for Modem: we help every team find customer concerns, fix them, and follow up to make sure your customers know you took action.

We make that possible with Modem 2.0, a rebuild of Modem's semantic observability platform. We connect to your user channels, identify user concerns, group them into topics, and trace how your organization acts on them by monitoring PRs and tickets. With more accuracy and faster end-to-end performance.

Product, engineering, success, sales, and leadership all work from the same graph. A continuously updated record of who said what and what your team did about it.

Engineers get alerted to user concerns before support sees them. Product managers can research user wants and needs in minutes. Sales knows the state of feature work before going into a call. And customer success is told the moment a user concern is addressed, so they have more good news to bring customers and impact retention.

If you're already using Modem, nothing changes for you. If you wrote it off as a developer tool, it's worth another look at modem.ai.
